Arsenal to introduce safe standing in significant Emirates Stadium change

Arsenal will implement safe standing at the Emirates Stadium from the start of next season.

The significant change will initially be made in the Clock End to enable 6850 fans to watch the Gunners while standing.

From the 2027-28 season onwards, that will be extended to 6650 supporters in the North Bank as well.

The alterations will not have any impact on the Emirates' capacity, and fans will be prevented from moving between seated areas and the safe-standing section.

The Arsenal Supporters’ Trust [AST] has been leading the push for safe standing to become a feature at the Emirates for a number of years, believing it will benefit the atmosphere.

Extensive talks have been held with the club and the decision has now been made to proceed with the move towards safe standing.

A survey conducted by the trust in 2017 found that 96% of fans were in favour of safe standing at football grounds.

"Arsenal fans have long wanted this so it is great news that safe standing is to be introduced at the Emirates Stadium," the AST said in a statement.

"We have campaigned for more than ten years to secure this outcome and hope it will further enhance fans’ match day experience, the atmosphere and ultimately support for the team.

"It will also clarify arrangements for supporters when they buy a ticket by setting clear expectations on whether they can expect to primarily stand or be seated.

"It shouldn’t have taken this long and some of the reasons Arsenal have put forward over the years for not introducing safe standing have been obstructive.

"But we give credit to Rich Garlick and his executive team who have recognised the importance of the issue to fans. Club and fans can now move forward together."
