Arsenal tipped to make January move for Donny van de Beek amid Manchester United exit rumours

Arsenal have been urged to sign Donny van de Beek, and bring the midfielder’s torrid time at Manchester United to an end.

Van de Beek has struggled to force his way into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans ever since making the move to Old Trafford from Ajax last year.

The Dutchman has made just 17 starts in all competitions for United, and has been handed just five appearances so far this season, with three of those coming from the bench.

Despite proving popular with supporters, the 24-year-old appears to firmly be on the fringes of Solskjaer’s plans, calling into question his future at the club.

Van de Beek signed a five-year deal when he arrived at Old Trafford, but rumours abound that he could be looking to make a move in January.

And former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell has urged his old club to step in and make a move for a player he believes can “play anywhere” in midfield.

“There’s been a rumour about van de Beek at Manchester United. It’s not his fault, how is it his fault?” Campbell told The Highbury Squad.

“He was at Ajax, he was unbelievable at Ajax. Gets signed by Manchester United and they won’t play him. I don’t know, I’m just saying it’s a rumour.

“I only want what’s best for Arsenal and I believe that Van de Beek can play if given the opportunity. The boy can play.

“He wants out. You never know, maybe they might [loan him to Arsenal]. At the end of the day, what’s the point of having an unhappy player and obviously, Ole doesn’t fancy him.

“I think this young man has got super ability, has got a great attitude, but he needs to play. He can play anywhere around that midfield, he can play holding, eight and attacking. So again, we’ve got someone who’s versatile.”

Speaking about Van de Beek last month, Solskjaer admitted the former Ajax man is “not happy”.

"Donny is still working hard, of course, and at the moment it's hard,” Solskjaer said.

“I understand Donny is frustrated, he's disappointed but he keeps on working every day with a big smile.

"I know he's not happy, but he works hard and he's a top professional. He knows that that's the way that sometimes it works in football, at the moment he's not playing but he doesn't let himself down."
