Arsenal target Ilkay Gundogan rules out Borussia Dortmund return in new update on future

Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan has ruled out returning to Borussia Dortmund this summer as he weighs up his future.

The midfielder will be out of contract at the end of this month and is attracting interest from Arsenal, Barcelona and clubs in Saudi Arabia.

City want their skipper to stay and the 32-year-old could still opt to put pen to paper on a new deal at the Etihad Stadium.

Gundogan will not, however, be returning to Dortmund, which is where he spent five seasons before joining City in 2016.

“There was contact with Borussia Dortmund,” he said. “Not with me personally, but between [sporting director Sebastian] Kehl and my advisor.

“Of course I have a strong connection with BVB. I wasn’t surprised the rumours started.

“But the probability wasn’t too high for me. It wasn’t a big issue for me to return to the Bundesliga.

“Basically, there is no decision yet [on my future]. Conversations are running in the background.”
