Arsenal set to receive £40m transfer windfall with midfield trio heading for imminent exits

Matteo Guendouzi has agreed personal terms with Marseille but a fee between the structure of the deal still needs to be agreed with Arsenal, football.london understands.

The 22-year-old spent the 2020/21 season on loan at Hertha Berlin, but fell out of favour towards the end of his spell there with the Bundesliga side opting against making his move permanent.

Guendouzi is currently on holiday in Corsica with his family and talks are continuing between Marseille and Arsenal, with the Gunners demanding €20m and the French side keen on making it a loan deal with an obligation to buy.

With Guendouzi set to depart this summer, another midfielder in Granit Xhaka is expected to complete his move to Roma.

Personal terms have been agreed for over a fortnight, but the sticking point has been Arsenal's demands of €20m for the Swiss international.

Xhaka was persuaded to stay at Arsenal by manager Mikel Arteta in January 2020, with a move to Hertha Berlin in advanced stages after the 28-year-old agreed terms with the Bundesliga side.

And it's now accepted by all sides that his time at the club has come to a natural end, with the 28-year-old keen on seeking a new challenge in Italy.

Xhaka and Guendouzi are set to be joined by Lucas Torreira who wants to leave Arsenal permanently this summer.

Torreira was keen on staying in Spain but it's unclear whether Atletico Madrid will look to sign the Uruguayan, after he made just 19 appearances for Diego Simeone's title-winning side.

Italian side Lazio remain locked in talks with Arsenal over signing the midfielder, who want two instalments of €10m and are keen on getting a deal thrashed out in the coming weeks.
