Arsenal's stance on third Moises Caicedo transfer offer 'revealed' as £70m bid rejected

Arsenal have less than 48 hours to wrap up a deal for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo before the January transfer window slams shut.

The Gunners saw a £60million offer for Caicedo rebuffed on Friday morning, football.london understands and reports on Sunday evening claimed that a second offer in the region of £70 million was then lodged by technical director Edu. However, as per The Athletic, this was also swiftly turned down by the Seagulls, who are adamant that they don't want to sell the Ecuadorian international this month.

Now, The Daily Mail have reported that the north Londoners will consider walking away from a deal following the rejection of their second bid, a blow to Mikel Arteta who has made it no secret of his desire to strengthen his options in midfield following Mohamed Elneny's recent knee injury.

Speaking about Elneny's injury last week, Arteta said: "There are concerns. Mo is a player who never complains about anything but let's see.

"We need some more cover in midfield, ideally, if we can. But this market is complicated. But as I always say, the most important thing is we get the performances and the time on the pitch with the players we already have on the pitch are really good."

It remains to be seen whether or not Arsenal will make another attempt to sign Caicedo before Tuesday night's deadline, although it will certainly take a huge offer to prise the Ecuadorian away from the Amex Stadium this month.
