Arsenal ratings vs Man City: Gabriel Martinelli stars as super sub again with late equaliser

Gabriel Martinelli scored a late equaliser as Arsenal came from behind to draw with Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola’s side had looked on course to leave north London with all three points after Erling Haaland’s early goal.

Arsenal, however, were able to snatch a point at the death as Martinelli came off the bench to score with minutes to go.

Simon Collings was at Emirates Stadium to see Arsenal in action...

David Raya 6

Made a vital save early in the second half, which denied Haaland a second goal. Otherwise had little to do as Arsenal dominated the ball.

Jurrien Timber 6

Had a great battle with Jeremy Doku, who was very lively. Got forward more in the second half once Bukayo Saka came on.

William Saliba 6

Back in the team after missing the last two games with an ankle injury. Largely dealt well with Haaland.

Gabriel 5

Caught up the pitch for City’s goal and there was no way he was catching Haaland once the Norwegian got up to speed.

Riccardo Calafiori 6

Kept Phil Foden quiet, with City’s main threat coming down the other flank. Quiet in attack, though.

Mikel Merino 4

Struggled, and the combo of him and Declan Rice starves Arsenal of creativity. Almost gifted City a second by giving the ball away. Hooked at half-time.

Martin Zubimendi 6

Saw plenty of the ball, especially in the second half, but could not open City up. Spurned a good chance shortly after the break.

Declan Rice 6

Usually a man for the big games but he was not as influential as he can be. Even his set-pieces couldn't make the difference.

Noni Madueke 6

Unlucky to be taken off at the break, as he was Arsenal’s best attacker in the first half. Drew a good save from Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Viktor Gyokeres 5

Not really in the game, especially during the first half. Fed off scraps and could not make an impact. Quiet.

Leandro Trossard 5

A frustrating watch. Had some good moments - including a cross that just evaded Gyokeres - but wasteful at times.

Substitutions

Bukayo Saka (Madueke 46’) 6

Raised the tempo in the early moments of the second half as he made his comeback from injury.

Eberechi Eze (Merino 46’) 7

One of the two half-time changes. Created Arsenal’s late equaliser with a brilliant ball over the top.

Gabriel Martinelli (Timber 80’) 7 | Star player

Off the bench and scored the vital goal with minutes to go. Arsenal’s hero.

Ethan Nwaneri (Trossard 84’) N/A

Cristhian Mosquera (Zubimendi 90’) N/A

Subs not used: Kepa, Mosquera, White, Lewis-Skelly, Norgaard
