Arsenal provide injury update on seven players before Newcastle clash

Arsenal have released updates on the fitness of several first team players ahead of the Premier League 's opening weekend.

It's been all systems go at the Emirates this summer with the club orchestrating some savvy transfer business despite their limited funds.

David Luiz and Kieran Tierney were welcome additions to the Gunners defence on Deadline Day joining Nicolas Pepe , Dani Ceballos , Gabriel Martinelli and William Saliba on the club's list of done deals.

Unai Emery takes his side to Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon and fans will surely be starting to try and guess the starting eleven that will emerge at St. James' Park.

Ahead of their season opener, Arsenal's medical team have provided updates regarding seven first team players and their respective injuries.

Striker Alexandre Lacazette has an ankle problem and will be assessed, while Nicolas Pepe is regaining full fitness after the Africa Cup of Nations meaning Emery has a decision to make on his participation.

Hector Bellerin and Rob Holding are recovering from respective knee problems. Bellerin is not expected to return to full training until October, while Holding is slightly further ahead in his rehabilitation.

Dinos Mavropanos is being treated for a groin injury and will miss six-eight weeks. Emile Smith-Rowe should return from the same injury within a fortnight while Mohamed Elneny 's fitness will be assessed.

The Gunners will be looking to improve on their fifth place finish last term with some exciting fresh faces replacing some big name departures.

Aaron Ramsey and Laurent Koscielny left for Juventus and Bordeaux respectively, Alex Iwobi was snapped up by Everton while young striker Eddie Nketiah joined Leeds United on a season-long loan deal.

Emery has made some good additions to the squad in difficult financial circumstances and will be hoping this can be a breakthrough season for Arsenal .
