Arsenal player ratings vs Newcastle: Gabriel Martinelli shines, Saka and Ramsdale impress

Aaron Ramsdale - Great save to deny Jonjo Shelvey’s free kick and generally solid between the sticks. Commands his area brilliantly and keeps his team in the game with key saves every week. Won’t be a surprise if he’s named Arsenal’s player of the season by the time May comes around. 8

Takehiro Tomiyasu - Couldn’t impact the game in the first half, looked slow on the turn and unable to get accurate crosses into the box. Work rate unquestionable but still aspects of his game that require improvement. 6

Ben White - Mopped up several times and showcased a couple of marauding runs in the second half. Becoming a leader in the team and a pivotal player in the backline. 7

Gabriel - A constant presence at set pieces. Callum Wilson’s chance was the only real blotch on the copybook of Arsenal’s defenders today. 6

Nuno Tavares - Poor decision making to take long range shots in the first half when better options were on. Seemed desperate to impress after a disappointing performance at Anfield. Improved in the second half and was involved in the build up for Saka’s goal. 6

Thomas Partey - Didn’t assert himself as much as he would have liked and was substituted in the latter stages of the game. 5

Sambi Lokonga - Always progressive and dynamic on the ball. Had a quiet game but looked tidy when in possession. 6

Emile Smith Rowe - Tries to make things happen and opens up spaces for the other attacking players. 6

Bukayo Saka - Had a fantastic game and could have scored more than one goal. Will be hoping that his injury isn’t serious. 8

Martin Odegaard - Escapes tight spaces with ease and always contributes with his off the ball work. 7

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - A game to forget for the Arsenal captain. Terrible miss and didn’t look himself at all. 5

Subs:

Gabriel Martinelli: Instant impact from Arsenal’s Brazilian starlet. He’ll be hoping for more opportunities after this one. 7

Alexandre Lacazette: Had a couple of good chances that he couldn’t take. 5

Mohamed Elneny: Not on long enough to make an impact. N/A
