Arsenal news: Major Mykhaylo Mudryk transfer update and Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool concern

Here's your latest Arsenal morning digest on Monday, October 3.

Gunners lagging behind in Mudryk race

Nice are reportedly leading the race for Arsenal target Mykhaylo Mudryk. The Ukraine international spoke about his desire to play for the Gunners last month, saying that he wouldn't be able to say 'no' if Arsenal made an attempt to sign him.

The Sun have reported that the Ligue 1 side are best placed to sign Mudryk in January or in next summer's transfer window. The forward has also been linked with Brentford, Newcastle United and Everton.

It remains to be seen whether Arsenal make a move for the Shakhtar Donetsk man, but Newcastle would reportedly pay £50 million for his services in January.

Klopp's Arsenal concern

Not many Premier League followers would have predicted Arsenal to be 11 points ahead of Liverpool after just eight games of the 2022/23 season. The Gunners have started the campaign in sensational form with seven wins and just one defeat, while Liverpool have won just two of their games - although they have played one less than Arsenal.

The two teams meet at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, October 9, and while the bookmakers are struggling to split the two teams, Arsenal will surely be considered as likely winners given the stark contrast in form between the sides. It's a strange position for Arsenal to be in, as they have an abysmal recent record against the Reds.

The Gunners have won just one of their last 14 Premier League meetings against Liverpool - with the last four clashes ending in defeat for Arsenal. However, Sunday represents an ideal opportunity for Mikel Arteta's side to end their Liverpool hoodoo.

North London Derby debut makes Saliba exit fears worse

Concern remains that with the diminishing contract of William Saliba, the French international could leave Arsenal at the end of his contract or even sooner. The 21-year-old has finally kickstarted his Arsenal career three years after he arrived in 2019 from Saint-Etienne.

Hope remains that Saliba will renew his deal and football.london reporter Kaya Kaynak wrote in August that things are looking positive on Arsenal’s front. However, since then, Saliba has continued to put in impressive performances, no less so than in Arsenal’s most high-profile match of the season in yesterday’s North London Derby win.

It has been reported that Saliba is in no rush to negotiate at this stage and rightly so. The ball is in his court and there is sure to be no shortage of interest in the Frenchman whose chances of making Didier Deschamps' World Cup squad look very good.
