Arsenal morning headlines as Lucas Torreira makes transfer decision, Thomas Partey promise

Here are your Arsenal morning headlines for Friday, 23 October.

Torreira wants Atleti stay

Lucas Torreira only joined Atletico Madrid on loan from Arsenal earlier this month but he is already eyeing a long-term stay in the Spanish capital.

The Uruguayan has featured twice for Diego Simeone’s side in the past week and he has now declared his intention to remain at the club beyond the current campaign.

"I’ve suffered a lot of things - I had a lot of personal problems and more than anything my family also suffered," Torreira told Ovacion, cited by The Sun.

"I know that I am a year on loan. But I've been here for four or five days and it seems like it's a lot, because I've been treated very well.

“It is a new opportunity in my life, in which I have fought a lot, because Atlético has always been one of my dreams, one of my goals as a team.

"And being able to achieve it at the age of 24 is something very important.

“It all depends on how I go during the season, which I hope is very good, and maybe in the future I can stay in the club.”

Arteta praises Gunners comeback

Arsenal came from behind to record an important opening-day win against Rapid Vienna in the Europa League.

Late goals from David Luiz and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang got the Gunners off to a winning start in Austria and manager Mikel Arteta has praised the attitude of his players.

“We knew it was going to be a difficult match,” Arteta told reporters, as per football.london. We made it harder in the beginning with a few decisions that we made and obviously the goal we conceded, which if anything is obviously my fault because I demand we do those things.

"I really like the reaction. In the second half we understood much better the spaces we have to attack and we played with more purpose. We generated much more and we conceded a late chance with another misunderstanding at the back.

“In general we scored two good goals, the second was fantastic. We are delighted to start with a victory.”

Partey promise for Arsenal

Thomas Partey started Arsenal’s 2-1 win at Rapid Vienna and looked a cut above his own team-mates.

The Ghanaian impressed at both ends of the pitch and showed why the club decided to splash out £45million to secure his signature.

As per the report, Mikel Arteta said of Partey after the game: "We know that with the price we paid for him and the profile of the player that he is that he is going to have a lot of people looking at him every single game.

"This is about the structure we have as a team, the flow, the unity and the cohesion that we need in our team. He's one piece of that. Hopefully he's a big piece."
