Arsenal make Smalling move, Tottenham weigh up Godin swoop - latest Premier League rumours

The 2019/20 Premier League campaign currently finds itself in shutdown mode due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The season was postponed up until April 30, at the very earliest, on Friday, after the campaign had originally been on hold until April 3.

So, with no on-field action taking place for at least the next five weeks, it is transfer gossip and speculation that will be dominating the headlines.

Who faces contract uncertainty if season is extended into summer?

And with that in mind, here is a round-up of the very latest rumours from across the Premier League.

Arsenal make Smalling move

Arsenal have launched their first move to try and sign Manchester United centre-back Chris Smalling this summer, according to the Metro.

The England international, who joined United from Fulham back in 2010, is currently on loan at Italian giants Roma, for whom he has made a good impression for this season.

The 30-year-old has racked up 28 appearances for the Serie A club this season and his showings have most certainly not gone unnoticed, with a host of clubs looking into the possibility of permanently luring him away from Old Trafford this summer.

And it is claimed that Arsenal, who will most certainly be on the lookout for new defensive blood this summer, have made a move to land the centre-back.

Man Utd set out Koulibaly plan

Manchester United will be willing to let centre-back Chris Smalling join Roma on a permanent basis this summer, provided that they can secure the signing of Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, via the Mail.

A big summer of change is in the offing at Old Trafford as United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer plans to spend big in an attempt to turn the Red Devils back in title-winning contenders.

But their hopes of landing Senegal international Koulibaly in an attempt to bolster their defensive options rest on offloading Smalling, who has impressed whilst on loan at Roma this season.

Clubs have previously been put off by Napoli’s £90million valuation of Koulibaly but he could now be sold for a lower price in a bid to generate funds.

Spurs enter Godin race

Jose Mourinho, the Tottenham Hotspur manager, is ready to rival his former club, Manchester United, in the race to sign Inter Milan centre-back Diego Godin, report the Mirror.

The Uruguayan only joined the Italian club last summer after bringing his nine-year spell with Atletico Madrid to an end. However, his time in Italy has not worked out how he had hoped for, meaning he could be allowed to move on in the summer.

And it is claimed that Mourinho, who was close to bringing Godin to Old Trafford back in his days as United boss, is ready to line up a move for the 34-year-old once again, as he looks to try and bolster Spurs’ back-line this summer.

But Mourinho is not alone in chasing the former Atletico star, as Manchester United are also keeping a watchful eye on the defender ahead of the summer window.
