Arsenal are reportedly interested in making a move for Manchester City wide pair Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez this summer.
According to Mail Online, City boss Pep Guardiola is open to selling the duo as he aims to refresh his squad heading into the 2021/22 season.
They are not the only ones who are vulnerable at the Etihad Stadium though with it also being reported that Gabriel Jesus and Aymeric Laporte could also be moved on by the Spaniard.
However, news of Sterling and Mahrez’s potential availability will be of intriguing news to Gunners fans, with their club said to be interested in both players.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta worked with both during his time as an assistant coach at Manchester City.
The club’s interest stretches back further than the arrival of the current Gunners head coach, with Arsenal also credited as admirers of Mahrez as far back as 2016 under Arsene Wenger.
Meanwhile, there have also been rumours in the past that the North Londoners could make a move for Sterling.
Despite the club’s apparent interest, it might well be tough for Arsenal to facilitate a move.
With no European football on offer next season, funds at the Emirates Stadium are not going to be extraordinarily high.
Mahrez is coming off the back of one of his most impressive campaigns in Manchester since a 2018 move from Leicester City. He has hit 14 goals and notched nine assists ahead of Saturday’s UEFA Champions League final against Chelsea, and it would be unlikely that the club would be willing to let him leave cheaply.
Arsenal will also have to factor in considerable competition too, with the likes of Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid reportedly holding a long-standing interest in Sterling.
The duo are both under contract until the summer of 2023.
