Arsenal legend proved correct on Alexis Sanchez's move to Manchester United

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has been proven correct on Alexis Sanchez's move to Manchester United.

The signing in January 2018 was seen at the time as a coup for Jose Mourinho and United, as they beat competition from rivals Manchester City for the Chile international's signature.

It was the second time in six years that United had taken a high-profile player from the Emirates Stadium, after Robin van Persie signed for Sir Alex Ferguson's side in the summer of 2012.

Sanchez was made United's highest-paid player after agreeing the move to Old Trafford, which also saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan transferred to Arsenal.

However, Gunners legend Ian Wright wasn't quite so confident that United had pulled off a remarkable deal in signing the then-29-year-old.

"The way Sanchez is playing [this season], I can't see how it is going to hurt Arsenal," Wright commented.

Since moving to Manchester, Sanchez has scored just three Premier League goals, and is now moving to Inter Milan on loan after delivering a number of disappointing displays.

Sanchez has lost his place in the first team, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer preferring an attacking quartet of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard and Daniel James, while the likes of Mason Greenwood and Angel Gomes have been pushing for places on the bench.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have gone from strength to strength in attack. While Mkhitaryan has similarly been a little underwhelming for the Gunners, they have since sealed a club-record deal for Nicolas Pepe for £72m, joining Alexandre Lacazette and last season's joint-top goalscorer in the Premier League Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in attack.
