Arsenal legend names who can solve Unai Emery's defensive problems and he won't cost a penny

Arsenal legend Nigel Winterburn has suggested a solution to the Gunners' defensive woes, and it won't need further investment.

Arsenal have been defensively fragile at the end of the season, conceding 11 goals in their last five Premier League games. Reports are suggesting that manager Unai Emery is looking to overhaul his squad in the summer, holding a possible firesale in order to raise money to bring in new recruits.

Shkodran Mustafi has received a lot of criticism from fans over recent weeks, and he is one of the players that could be moved on in the clearout. But, Winterburn says that a player already at the club could be the answer that Emery is looking for.

'Stan Kroenke must invest, Unai Emery has our backing' - Arsenal fans deliver verdict on 2018/19

Speaking on Love Sport Radio, he said: "I'd like to see a pacy attacking wide player come to the club, potentially another midfield player and there is a lot being said about the need to restrengthen in defence.

"But I think Unai Emery may be looking at the likes of Rob Holding, who had a fantastic six months and then picked up a serious knee injury.

"He was coming through and looking very, very consistent. It's just a case of where Unai Emery feels he needs to strengthen."

Before they can think about the transfer window, Arsenal have the small matter of the Europa League final against Chelsea. A win in the competition would ensure Champions League football for next season, which may make the Gunners a more attractive proposition for transfer targets come the summer.
