Arsenal have hit a ‘new level’ after ‘world class’ signings, says Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers

Brendan Rodgers believes Arsenal have hit “a new level” following an ambitious summer in the transfer market.

Mikel Arteta has added Matt Turner, Marquinhos, Fabio Vieira, Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko to a squad who only narrowly missed out on Champions League qualification last season, while William Salbia’s return from various loan spells has strengthened the defence.

The Arsenal boss has also hinted at making further additions having watched his side beat Crystal Palace in impression fashion to get their Premier League campaign off to a winning start.

Rodgers takes his Leicester City team to the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, with Youri Tielemans offering an interesting subplot.

The Belgian international has been a long-term target in north London, with Arsenal holding preliminary talks with his agent back in January, though are yet to make a move for a player widely expected to leave the King Power Stadium.

Tielemans is into the final year of his contract and there appears to be little desire to sign an extension, with Rodgers previously admitting the club need to sell before they can buy during what remains of the summer window.

Ahead of the game, Rodgers said: “Arsenal have gone to a new level with the three players who have come into the team.

“Saliba is a talented player, he’s gone away and got really good experience and you see him, he’s quick, he can dominate. He’s a fantastic addition and gives them presence at the back.

“The two guys coming in from Man City have made a difference. They’re coming from a world-class environment. Jesus is a world-class striker.”
