Arsenal handed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang boost amid Mesut Ozil contract warning

Aubameyang promise should encourage Arsenal fans

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s previous comments suggest he is unlikely to join any of Arsenal’s rivals.

The 31-year-old, who has just over a year left on his contract at the Emirates, has been linked with a move to Barcelona, Chelsea, Manchester United and Inter Milan.

But a quote from Aubameyang back in 2017 implies that he would be reluctant to sign for one of Arsenal’s Premier League rivals.

“I’ll never go to Bavaria, that’s for sure. That would be too hard for the Dortmund fans,” he said. “No matter what they offer me, I would say no. Absolutely no way.

“I’ve played for St. Etienne and the fans told me I should never go to Lyon. So I didn’t go.”

It remains to be seen whether the Gabon international will commit his future to Arsenal, though.

How Gunners should resolve Ozil contract situation

Football.london’s Art De Roche has taken a look at how Arsenal should approach the situation regarding Mesut Ozil’s contract.

The Germany international is one of six players at the club heading into the final year of their respective contracts.

And the Gunners are faced with a decision over Ozil’s future.

“Either they keep the player on a deal that works and won't hurt Arsenal in the long term or they resolve the situation by making a concrete decision on whether the player will be sold or released,” writes Art De Roche. “Too often, the club have been reactive rather than proactive when dealing with possible departures.”

Arsenal set to return to training

Arsenal players will return to training at London Colney next week, Mirror Football have reported.

Players will be allowed to undertake some light running while ensuring that they follow the government’s coronavirus regulations.

A club spokesperson said: "Players will be permitted access to our London Colney training grounds next week.

"Access will be limited, carefully managed and social distancing will be maintained at all times. All Colney buildings remain closed.

"Players will travel alone, do their individual workout and return home."

Training will be done on a voluntary basis, and only groups of five players at a time will be permitted onto the training ground.

Fitness coach Shad Forsythe will oversee the session with doctor Gary O’Driscoll also in attendance. Social distancing must be maintained at all times.
