Arsenal great Tony Adams has hit out at Mikel Arteta's decision to hand Alexandre Lacazette the captaincy for the clash at home to Sheffield United.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was red carded during the Gunners' 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace last Saturday and the forward will now miss three games including the encounter against the Blades.
Losing Aubameyang is not just a blow for the side in terms of goals scored, he is also a leader for Arsenal after taking over the captaincy from Granit Xhaka in November, though he did finish the Palace draw with the armband last week.
Xhaka was named from the start for today's game at the Emirates but that did not lead to him landing the captaincy once again in Aubameyang's absence.
Instead, Lacazette was handed the honour, a decision which has been criticised by Adams.
Adams told BT Sport: "I think we're running out [of centre-backs] anyway. Lacazette captain, I'm not sure about that.
"I think we're running out of captains at the club. Not so sure any forward should be a captain. That might upset a few centre-forwards!"
Speaking about Arsenal's clash at home to Sheffield United ahead of the fixture, Adams also added that he was hopeful his old side could put in a strong display defensively.
"I'm just looking for a real positive result and get the team's [morale] up. I'm a little bit like an old broken record here, I keep saying defensively - at the moment our defending in numbers is good - let's get a good solid result and the three points."
