Arsenal: Gabriel Jesus sent transfer message as former club intensify homecoming interest

Palmeiras club president Leila Pereira has urged Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus to “come home”.

The Brazilian, who is currently sidelined with an ACL injury, has suffered an injury-laden spell at the Emirates Stadium since his arrival from Manchester City back in 2022.

In 96 games for the Gunners, Jesus has scored 26 goals.

He moved to England from Palmeiras back in 2017, joining Man City from one of his boyhood clubs in a transfer worth around £27million plus add-ons.

He made the switch to London four years ago, rejoining former City assistant Arteta at Arsenal for around £45m.

Jesus has previously been linked with a move away from the capital, especially with the signings of Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres to play in the central-striking berth.

As such, that has led to Palmeiras president Pereira to call the 28-year-old “home” when she was asked to choose between Jesus and Cruzeiro striker Gabriel Barbosa, formerly of Santos and Inter Milan, by journalist Paloma Tocci.

“Of course Gabriel Jesus, and I’ll say more. Soon you’re coming back home, Gabriel! One day you’ll return,” Pereira said, also confirming that although no talks were underway to get Jesus’ return in motion, he remained a target for the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A side.

Jesus’ contract in north London runs until 2027, and he is continues his comeback trail towards a return to action.

That, however, is not expected to be any time soon, especially with Jesus omitted from the Gunners’ Champions League squad.
