Arsenal fans rage at VAR decision during Tottenham vs Man City and make Aubameyang comparison

Arsenal supporters took to social media after Raheem Sterling escaped a sending off for a tackle on Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli.

During the first half of the Premier League clash, the ball broke loose on the edge of the Spurs penalty area.

Sterling attempted to reach the ball, but the Manchester City winger's challenge was late and caught the Tottenham midfielder on the ankle with his studs-up.

Referee Mike Dean showed a yellow card to Sterling, with a subsequent VAR check ruling that it was not a red card offence.

Sterling apologised to his England teammate, but many fans were in disbelief at the decision.

Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was sent off against Crystal Palace in December for a similar tackle on Max Meyer.

The referee's initial decision was to book the Gabon forward, but after a VAR check, Aubameyang was shown a straight red card.

And supporters immediately vented their bemusement at the lack of consistency.

One fan wrote: 'Aubameyang red card, Sterling yellow card. VAR useless.'

Another posted: 'No difference between Sterling and Aubameyang’s [tackle] for me.'

Aubameyang received a three-match ban for the tackle, and made his return for Arsenal's goalless draw against Burnley on Sunday afternoon.
