Arsenal fans noticed what happened when Lucas Torreira started for Uruguay against Peru

It has been a season of change for Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira.

Of the Gunners' eight Premier League games thus far the 22-year-old has started just two - against Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United - and on both occasions he was used in a box-to-box role.

In addition, he's functioned as the most advanced midfielder, a role he does not appear to be immediately suited to.

And he discussed his lack of league minutes earlier in the week.

"I don't know whether I'd say it's frustrating," Torreira told reporters when discussing his diminished role in Emery's plans. "All players want to play, they obviously want to be in the starting XI - that's completely normal. But that's not something that depends on me.

"It's down to the coach to make those decisions and really I have to respect that. Right now it's about not giving up.

"You have to continue working hard and whether I'm playing in the starting XI or from the bench I want to give my all for the team.

"That's the kind of player I am.

"I like to give 100% for the shirt to help my team-mates and to give the fans something to cheer about."

But things are different with Torreira's national team.

As seen above, a description from a fan account says that Torreira provided great protection to the back four in the 1-0 win over Peru because he was deployed in his more natural defensive position.

This has prompted several Arsenal fans to pass on the message to Emery.
