Arsenal fans notice how Thomas Partey showed Mikel Arteta his best position vs Sheffield United

Arsenal fans have noticed the impressive role Thomas Partey played on Sunday as the Gunners picked up a much-needed three points.

Mikel Arteta's men defeated strugglers Sheffield United 3-0 thanks to a brace from Alexandre Lacazette and goal from youngster Gabriel Martinelli.

But while the scoring duo received plenty of praise, midfielder Partey also impressed, anchoring the Gunners' midfield with Dani Ceballos given a lot more licence to push on.

Arsenal fans haven't seen the best of Partey just yet following his arrival for £45million from Atletico Madrid in the summer, the Ghanaian struggling with injury for the most part.

He has managed to make 26 appearances across all competitions, but amid Arsenal's struggles, it hasn't been a comfortable start to life in north London for Partey.

Though, the Gunners may now know how to get the best out of their big summer signing after seeing the role he played against Sheffield United.

One fan on Reddit highlighted a position map of the win over the Blades that showed how Partey operated as a single pivot, often being the only may to stay deep as others bombed on.

Whether it will work against better teams that cause Arsenal more problems defensively remains to be seen, but Arsenal fans like what they saw from 'octopus' Partey on the weekend.

Here's the position map and what some fans had to say about it on Reddit.

PrathGooner - "Interesting shape yesterday. Partey is a one man Midfield. No wonder they call him 'The Octopus'."

YrGod - "Octopartey."

Daduang - "Octhomas Prime."

Ganzelo - "Hmm.. seems to work against low block teams like West Ham when they were 3-0 up and Sheffield [United]. And low block teams are one of our weaknesses. One way to go forward I guess?"

iDervyi - "Man City-esque. This is how they operate with Rodri & Fernandinho."

Varro_reatinus - "Thomas is best as a single pivot, and the further he is from Xhaka, the better he plays."
