Arsenal fans paint north London red as thousands take part in wild Premier League title celebrations

Arsenal fans turned north London red as thousands partied into the early hours of Wednesday morning to celebrate the club’s first Premier League title in 22 years.

Fireworks were launched into the night sky outside the Emirates Stadium as crowds of jubilant supporters danced in the streets.

Hundreds of Gunners fans watched Manchester City draw with Bournemouth at the nearby Tollington pub to confirm their club’s first top-flight title in more than two decades.

Erling Haaland equalised in added time to cancel out Junior Kroupi’s record-breaking 13th top-flight goal of the campaign but the visitors were unable to force a winner as Pep Guardiola was denied a potential fairytale farewell.

The full-time whistle on the south coast prompted wild scenes in north London as supporters descended on the Arsenal stadium to begin the party.

Video was shared on social media of fireworks being launched outside Arsenal’s ground shortly before midnight.

Footage was also posted of one exuberant fan clambering onto the roof of a London bus, which had to slow to a halt as fans celebrated on the street in wild scenes.

Arsenal will lift the Premier League trophy at Selhurst Park on Sunday, following the conclusion of the season.

It is a case of fourth time lucky for Arsenal and Mikel Arteta, who had finished as runners-up for three seasons - to City twice and then Liverpool - before getting over the line this campaign with one game to spare.

Arsenal could still make it an historic double for the club as they chase their first Champions League title in the final against Paris Saint-Germain on May 30.

The league title ended a six-year period without a trophy and is Arteta’s second major honour in charge after the 2020 FA Cup victory.

Midfielder Declan Rice posted a picture on Instagram with his team-mates with the caption “I told you all.. it’s done.”

Former Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, who led the team to their last title, in 2004, featured in a celebratory post from the Gunners on their X account.

He said: “You did it. Champions go on when others stop. This is your time. Now, go on and enjoy every moment.”

Taking to social media, Gooners from all over the world reacted with delight to the news.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer took to social media to congratulate his team.

He wrote: “22 long years for the Arsenal. But finally, we’re back where we belong. Champions!”

Broadcaster Piers Morgan posted a photograph of Arsenal player’s celebrating their victory with the caption: “Breaking News: Champions.”

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan wrote on x: “Congratulations to Arsenal - the first London club to win the league in almost a decade and 22 years in the making.”

Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton shared the winning poster of the team with the caption: “Come on you Gunners.”
