Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney apologises for offensive gesture in squad picture after FA Cup semi-final win

Kieran Tierney has issued an apology after he was seen making an offensive gesture in a squad picture tweeted by Emiliano Martinez following Arsenal's 2-0 FA Cup semi-final win against Manchester City.

Martinez - who put in another assured performance in the absence of Bernd Leno - posted a picture of the squad celebrating together with the caption: "We are a team that’s all that matters, what a performance".

A number of Twitter users quickly singled out the Scot, who was seen putting his middle finger up at the camera.

Tierney swiftly took to Twitter to apologise, insisting he meant no offence and did not realise that particular picture would be posted online.

"Didn’t realise this was getting posted," he said. "Was a joke with the Kitman. I’m so sorry if it caused anyone offence - wasn’t meant in any way."

The 23-year-old played a pivotal role as Arsenal progressed through to the FA Cup final, handing City their first domestic cup defeat in two-and-a-half years.

The Scot's exquisite long-range pass found captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who slotted home his second goal of the game to seal a highly impressive win.

Arsenal - who have won the most FA Cup titles in history with 13 - will play either Chelsea or Manchester United in the final on August 1, with those two teams set to do battle at Wembley on Sunday evening.

Sitting 10th in the Premier League table, FA Cup now perhaps resemble the Gunners' best chance to claim a spot in the Europa League.
