Arsenal and Manchester United 'battling' for £53m striker transfer and it's not Joao Felix

AS Roma striker Tammy Abraham is the latest forward to be linked with a move to Arsenal during the January transfer window.

The Gunners are said to be interested in Atletico Madrid frontman Joao Felix, although they may face stiff competition with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United both mooted as potential destinations for the 23-year-old. Now, La Repubblica, via RomaPress, have reported that the Gunners, as well as United, are both monitoring the aforementioned Abraham’s situation in the Italian capital.

The England international, who is valued at €60 million (£53 million) by CIES Football Observatory, joined Jose Mourinho's side back in the summer of 2021 before netting 27 goals across all competitions during his debut campaign with the Giallorossi. His former club Chelsea can re-sign the 25-year-old for £68 million this summer, although the Blues have already agreed a deal to bring French forward Christopher Nkunku to the English capital at the end of the season.

When quizzed on the west Londoners' buyback clause, Abraham insisted he's happy at Roma but refused to rule out a potential return to Stamford Bridge. "I'm happy with Roma, and I'm focused on my job here," he told journalist Ojora Babatunde last year.

"The team is good. The manager is good. The city, the fans, I'm happy. Only God knows the future."

Despite his previous connection to the blue side of London, Abraham's old comments suggest that he would be open to joining Arsenal if the Gunners decided to make a move for his services. Speaking about his childhood to Eurosport in 2017, he said: "To be honest I was an Arsenal fan.

"When you’re young and you choose who to support, if it’s a family thing, it’s a family thing. Luckily for me, it was a family thing, so it wasn’t really a problem at Chelsea.

"Someone I looked up to was Thierry Henry. His variations of finishing, his movement, the way he dribbles.

"Someone like that has a key impact on me. I would love to be as big as him and maybe even better."
