Arsenal and Chelsea set to spend big on Transfer Deadline Day amid Danilo, Alvarez and Sangare

It's here! It's Transfer Deadline Day, and it is set to be busy on football.london.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham will all be active on incomings and outgoings, with each side in need of different things due to things that have happened regarding injuries and the impact it has all had on squad depth. The Gunners want to sign a new midfielder and wide player, whilst Chelsea want the same with the wide player being substituted for a new striker in their situation.

"The club has been super supportive to keep improving the squad and the team as we can," he said. "If the right player is available and we can do it, we will try," manager Mikel Arteta said on his side's plans on Transfer Deadline Day after the Aston Villa win over Wednesday night. Spurs are expected to be the least active of the three as they look to sign wing-back cover, with Lucas Moura expected to be given a chance to gain more first-team football away from North London if an Aston Villa move came to fruition.

With all of this taken into account, football.london rounds up the latest transfer rumours doing the rounds ahead of the final knockings being played out today.

Arsenal and Chelsea set to spend big on new midfield signings

Both teams need at least one more midfielder each to deal with respective injury situations.

For Arsenal, Mohamed Elneny's and Thomas Partey's situation has prompted Edu to look into eleventh-hour deals. They have been linked to the likes of Danilo and Youri Tielemans, so who they go for remains to be seen.

"[Elneny's injury] changes things because Thomas is also injured. We are looking at options in the market and to see if the right opportunity comes up," Arteta said in his post-match presser.

In West London, N'Golo Kante's injury has led to a fall off of form from the Tottenham draw, with the latest Southampton set-back illustrating the need for urgent action to be taken. As a response, one of Edson Alvarez, Ibrahim Sangare or Frenkie de Jong are expected to be pursued.

Cody Gakpo problem

Tottenham can have the last laugh over Arsenal in the summer transfer window as we approach the final day of proceedings.

BBC Radio Solent (local Southampton station) have reported that Southampton have 'agreed' a fee for the 23-year-old Dutch prospect, but the Athletic's David Ornstein has declared the transfer race to be open in this scenario with Leeds United now very hot on the tails of a left winger who has netted twice for PSV already in their game in the Eredivisie over FC Volendam.

Ornstein tweeted: 'Cody Gakpo race open. Leeds United / Southampton / lucrative new deal at PSV Eindhoven. No issue for Saints on a fee or personal terms. LUFC is interested if Dan James leaves. Fresh PSV terms strong option.'

Tottenham are expected to go hard for James in the last 24 hours of the window with Aston Villa highly keen to poach Lucas Moura if the former Man United man was to become the eighth new summer signing for Antonio Conte, Leeds would go hard for Gakpo as a replacement and therefore ruin Arsenal's slim transfer chances on Deadline Day.

Dream midfield with Danilo and Tielemans signed

Leicester's number 8 would take Partey's spot as a midfield pairing cannot be formed with a player with a history of picking up niggles here and there.

Granit Xhaka would be the midfield partner for the 25-year-old. Mohamed Elneny would be a useful rotation-type player, whilst the likes of Albert Sambi-Lokonga and Danilo, in the long-term, will be the future of Mikel Arteta's midfield foundations.

Danilo would most likely need to be loaned back for 2022/23, with Palmeiras not keen on losing the 21-year-old during a title challenge in the Brazilian Serie A. With Ainsley Maitland-Niles also expected to be off, Elneny, Lokonga, and Partey would be the backup options in this scenario.

Arsenal's midfield two behind Saka, Odegaard and Martinelli: Youri Tielemans and Granit Xhaka.

Substitute options for the remainder of 2022/23: Thomas Partey, Mohamed Elneny and Albert Sambi-Lokonga.
