Arrests made after car reverses into Carlow tanning salon and causes fire

Three arrests have been made this morning in connection to a fire that occurred at a Carlow tanning salon earlier this week.

Bikini Beach on Tullow Street in Carlow was set ablaze after a car reversed into the premises at high speed early on Tuesday morning

It is believed that the car was driven into the building before it was deliberately set on fire.

Tullow Street was sealed off from the general public for several hours to gather evidence at the scene.

Garda Superintendent Aidan Brennan confirmed on KCLR FM this morning that the arrests had been made as part of an ongoing investigation into the crash and urged anyone with information to come forward.

“Anybody who lights a fire in an occupied building is entirely reckless as to the safety of the occupants of that building,” he told the radio station.

“We are going to be intensifying our patrols around the town in the coming days and weeks in order to prevent any further outbreaks of this nature.”

The tanning salon and its overheard apartments were destroyed in the incident.

The salon was empty at the time of the fire and residents of the apartments were evacuated without injury.

Breakingnews.ie reported that two houses were searched this morning by gardai prior to the arrests.

The men are believed to be currently detained at Garda stations in Carlow and Kildare.

Gardaí are also appealing for anyone who may have video footage of the crash or fire to come forward to help their investigation. Gardaí can be contacted at Tullow Garda station on 059 915 1222 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.

The Garda Press Office has been asked for comment.
