Arrests at protest in Leeds as police issue statement

Four people have been arrested as a protest took place in Leeds.

A protest took place around 2pm today, Saturday, January 28, where around 80 people took to the streets in Seacroft as against the housing of illegal migrants.

The protest took place at the Britannia Hotel on the ring road near Tesco in Seacroft. A witness has reported a number of people marching along the ring road as part of the protest.

A number of police officers were called to the protest and four arrests were made. The protest took place for around 40 minutes, says police.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: "Police officers attended a protest near a hotel in Seacroft, Leeds, today (28/1) which started at around 2pm and lasted about 40 minutes.

"As part of a policing operation to manage the event peacefully, four people were arrested.

"West Yorkshire Police worked with partner agencies in advance to put appropriate plans in place for this event."

This article previously reported that the protest was organised by EDL, however it has since been clarified that this was not the case. We are happy to make this clear.
