Army officer cleared of sexually assaulting superior officer

A married Army officer has been cleared of sexually assaulting a superior officer.

Warrant Officer Peter Simons denied cornering the officer between desks and said it was them who instigated a clinch in their office before trying to kiss him.

The officer had claimed WO1 Simons sexually assaulted them by trapping them between desks, wrapping his arms around them, gazing into their eyes and pressing his lips against theirs in a kiss which lasted 'a couple of seconds'.

WO1 Simon, who has served in the army for 23 years, was cleared after telling the court how they had jumped into his arms earlier that day.

WO Simons told the court he had 'a lot going on' at home at the time, with his wife taking on a new job and the devastating news of his sister's breast cancer diagnosis.
