Armed police raid town centre property but leave empty handed

Armed police raided a property in Widnes town centre this morning but left empty handed.

A Cheshire Constabulary spokeswoman said a search of the property, on Albert Road in the town centre, has taken place and had finished by around 11.30am.

She said the warrant was executed shortly before 8am.

No-one has been arrested.

Residents in the area told the ECHO the initial response had involved officers armed with guns.

They said they were keen to find out what had happened.

Two police cars remained at the rear of the property near Cross Street and a patrol car was still parked at the front shortly before 11am.

Two people appeared to be seated in the back of the car on Albert Road.

Plain clothes officers, one wearing blue forensic gloves, had arrived and had entered the property, a healthy-food themed-takeaway.

The premises are in a busy central shopping district.
