Armed police raid Edinburgh street after man injured

A man has received emergency medical treatment following a disturbance in Edinburgh.

Armed police and the force's helicopter responded to an incident near the Martin and Frost furniture store at the popular retail park on Thursday evening after reports of an injured person.

Ambulance crews and a canine unit were also dispatched to support emergency responders after the alarm was raised shortly after 5pm.

Officers were seen combing the area for several hours after the disturbance, with part of the centre remaining locked down well into Thursday evening while inquiries were carried out.

A huge area of the retail park - which is home to more than 70 stores - was cordoned off during the response.

The man was treated by Scottish Ambulance Service personnel at the time of the incident, but his current condition is unknown.

Police are now investigating the disorder.

Speaking on Thursday evening, a Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "We were made aware of a man injured following a disturbance at Whitehill Road in Edinburgh shortly after 5pm on Thursday, 3 June.

"The man has been passed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service."
