Armed police arrest man outside Scots car dealership after 'chase'

A man has been arrested following a police operation in Lanarkshire.

The 32-year-old man was handcuffed outside Hillington Motors on Glasgow Road in Rutherglen this afternoon around 4pm.

Police had pursued the man following an intelligence lead operation.

Witnesses said there was a 'chase' and that they saw armed police vehicles at the scene as well as a helicopter before the man was detained.

Plain clothed officers along with firearm police carried out the arrest.

Officers said there was no risk to the wider public.

A Police spokesperson said: “Around 4pm on Monday, 26 April, 2021 officers stopped a car on Glasgow Road, Rutherglen following an intelligence lead operation.

“A 32-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident. Nobody was injured and there was no risk to the wider public.”
