Armed police and a sniffer dog at Bristol Temple Meads

If you were out and about travelling at Bristol Temple Meads railway station this morning, you may have noticed a high armed police and sniffer dog presence around the area.

Officers were there as part of a Project Servator patrol which is aimed to deter a range of criminal activity, including terrorism, today (January 20).

A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: “Passengers may have noticed a highly visible police presence at Bristol Temple Meads this morning – including armed officers and explosive search dog PD Polly.

"This is nothing to worry about, they are there to keep you safe and deter a wide range of criminal activity, including terrorism.

"Project Servator officers are specially trained in spotting those with criminal or terrorist intent, and while lots of the resources are highly visible, passengers won’t have spotted the plain clothes officers also at the station this morning.

When are armed police allowed to fire?

"Project Servator is unpredictable and our teams can pop up anywhere, at any time, but they need you to be our eyes and ears too.

"Trust your instincts and let us know about anything that doesn’t feel right by texting 61016, or 999 in an emergency.”
