Armed cops swoop on siege at Inverness home as man is arrested

Armed police have arrested a man after tackling an early morning siege at a house in Inverness .

Riot cops swooped on the housing estate after reports of a disturbance inside a property on Strathspey Place .

Officers were forced to close off a section of Inshes Road, in the Milton of Leys area of the city.

Emergency service were alerted to an incident at 3.20am this morning, with officers staying on the scene through the night.

Shocked neighbours reported the street was filled with riot cops, including a firearms squad and sniffer dogs.

Inverness road locked down as 'armed' police swoop on 'ongoing incident'  

The Scottish Fire and Rescue were also drafted in to assist with the incident.

An eyewitness said: "There is five police cars. Police have guns. Roads are closed. No sign of movement.

"There are sniffer dogs as well."

A Police Scotland spokesman confirmed that one men, aged 28, had been arrested.

Chief Inspector Colin Gough added: "This was incident was contained to within the property and there was no wider risk to the public."
