- Petal , Ariana Grande ’s eighth studio album, was released on Friday to mostly positive reviews.
- Rolling Stone gave the album four out of five stars, saying that the rage the singer exhibits on its 12 tracks “brings out Ariana Grande at her best”.
- Variety described the album as “darker, moodier and a lot more blunt” than 2024’s Eternal Sunshine, while The Times said that the “ethereal” album is an “old-fashioned triumph” for Grande.
- Pitchfork gave Petal 6.5 out of 10, saying that it “scans as intimate and experimental even as it retreads familiar territory”.
- The Independent ’s Roisin O’Connor, however, gave it just two out of five stars , describing it as “listless and bland”.
