Argyle Street: Traffic chaos as bus breaks down on busy city centre road

A bus has broken down on a busy city centre road, causing travel chaos this afternoon.

Argyle Street was closed between Union Street and Queen Street due to the First Bus service 77 (Hairst Street, Renfrew) break down, with no traffic able to pass through.

First Glasgow has said that the northbound bus is closed while a diversion is in place towards Buchanan Street.

A timelapse video shows the extent of the queuing along Argyle Street due to the breakdown.

Repairs have been done to the bus and the road has recently reopened.

A Glasgow City Council statement reads: "Argyle Street is closed between Union Street and Queen Street. This is due to a broken-down bus blocking Argyle Street at the junction with Queen Street.

"A recovery vehicle will be on site as soon as possible."
