Are there more wheels or doors in the world? The viral debate that's dividing the internet

A viral video on TikTok has divided the internet - are there more wheels or doors in the world?

While it is probably not the most life-changing debate out there - giving it more than a second's thought does get your mind wondering.

It seems the debate was sparked on Twitter after New Zealander Ryan Nixon posed the question in a poll.

It gathered more than 200,000 responses and has now spread to other social media platforms.

On TikTok, there are an inconceivable amount of videos touching on the debate with the tag 'wheelsvsdoors' garnering 11.6 million views while the tag doorsvswheels has accumulated 13.5 million views.

In Mr Nixon's poll, it seems most people believe there are more wheels with 53.6 per cent voting for the latter. But, unfortunately, there is likely no real way to know the answer to this hot debate.

It has, however, sparked some interesting conversations and points of view with many TikTok users posting videos going into the real definition of a door and wheel. Others, meanwhile, are attempting to find the answer with complex mathematical equations.

User koowaluh posted a video where he goes into the debate defining his definition of a door and a wheel before attempting to prove the answer mathematically.

Another user attempted to end the debate by posting a montage of all the places you can find doors around the world, including in shopping market freezer aisles, mansions, cars etc.

Over on Twitter, the debate has continued.

Twitter user sylvee commented: "You can’t tell me there are more doors then wheels when toy car factories are pumping out millions or wheels a day."

But cal_gif disagrees. They wrote: "There’s no way some people really think there are more wheels than doors in the entire world".

Ryan Cieri likened the new viral debate to the infamous 2015 internet dispute - the dress. Posting a picture of the iconic black and blue (or gold and white) dress, he said: "'More wheels or doors' is literally this all over again."

While we're not entirely sure what the answer is, it may be worth mulling over with your friends or colleagues during lunch!
