Apple has put out an urgent notice for all iPhone, iPad and Mac users after the company discovered two serious security issues that could be exploited by hackers. Here’s what to do to stay protected.
Apple users are being urged to ensure that they have the latest operating system (OS) updates in order to protect their device from potential hackers.
Apple has just released iOS 15.6.1 for iPhone and iPad 15.6.1 for its tablets. These two patches will fix the vulnerability issue, according to the tech giant.

The security fault affects two fundamental features of these devices, the Kernel operating code, which is a program at the core of the device’s operating system, and WebKit, which is the software behind the Safari browser and other apps.
It seems that hackers have been able to exploit a weakness in the software and gain full control of the devices they target by bypassing security systems. This means the fault poses a very serious security risk as a hacked device would be vulnerable to all sorts of attacks.
Apple has said that it will not release any further information about the threat or the number of people who may have been affected until the majority of users have updated their operating systems.
It has been confirmed that the fault may already have been used by hackers, so it is vital that users of these devices address the situation urgently.
How do I fix the issue?
To update the software on your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings , scroll down and select General and hit Software Update . Here you can see if you have the latest updates. If you’re not up to date, tap Download and Install . The update is around 280MB and once it’s downloaded, your device should restart and will then be secure.
If you have a Mac computer, you should also update your OS as soon as possible because they are also vulnerable to this threat. The latest operating system update is Monterey 12.5.1. To update your OS, just click on the Apple Menu and select System Preferences , then hit Software Update and Install.
