Apple issues emergency alert and advises iPhone owners to update phones now

Apple users have urged users to update their iPhones and iPads as soon as possible after sending out an emergency alert.

The update includes security fixes to block hackers from accessing people’s devices as well as the usual bug fixes.

It also fixes two security flaws identified by Google's Project Zero team.

An Apple spokesman said: “This update includes bug fixes and security updates and is recommended for all users.

"A remote user may be able to cause unexpected app termination or arbitrary code execution.

“Keeping your software up to date is one of the most important things you can do to maintain your Apple product's security."

The update is available to most handsets, although older models may not be able to download it.

It comes as Brits were warned anyone wishing to treat themselves or someone else to a new iPhone model or device ahead of Christmas may face issues.

Apple has issued a warning suggesting supplies of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models may be running dry.

The tech giant has been hit by supply issues, meaning customers may struggle to get their hands on these specific phones for Christmas, reports Chronicle Live .

Although Apple’s website says the UK has an estimated delivery time of between December 7 and 14 this could change.

Speaking about how they hope to keep up with demand, Apple said: "As we have done throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, we are prioritising the health and safety of the workers in our supply chain

"We continue to see strong demand for iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models.

“However, we now expect lower iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max shipments than we previously anticipated and customers will experience longer wait times to receive their new products.”
