Apple Buys Sleep Monitoring Device Beddit

Apple (AAPL) has bought Beddit, a Finnish maker of sleep monitoring devices.

The acquisition was confirmed by Beddit when it updated its privacy policy.

"Beddit has been acquired by Apple," Beddit said in an update to its privacy policy. "Your personal data will be collected, used and disclosed in accordance with the Apple Privacy Policy."

The company said users can use the Apple HealthKit to connect the Health app to the Beddit app.

The terms of the acquisition was not disclosed but increases Apple's gap in its digital health portfolio.

Beddit's latest model - Beddit 3 - is a thin strip of sensors that sits along the bed between the mattress and sheets. It analyzes data such as "sleep time and efficiency heart rate, respiration, temperature, movement, snoring, room temperature and room humidity."

It retails for $150 and can be bought in the Apple Store and on Amazon (AMZN) .

It is not clear whether Apple will continue to sell the product or incorporate the technology into a future products.

Last week, Apple CEO Tim Cook said sales of the Apple Watch has nearly doubled year-over-year during the company's first-quarter earnings, but did not give exact numbers for the wearable device.

Apple stock closed at $153.96 on Tuesday, extending a three month gain of 16.29%.
