Apple has announced the arrival of its brand new iPhone SE, featuring 5G connectivity along with a lower price tag.
The tech giant revealed the latest version of its iPhone SE, which starts at £419, yesterday (March 8) at its "Peek Performance" event.
The phone is available to pre-order from Friday, March 11, and will ship from March 18. It was announced alongside a number of other new Apple products.
The new iPhone SE boasts plenty of impressive upgrades including the performance of A15 Bionic, which brings faster processing speeds, as well as a longer battery life and improved durability.
Kaiann Drance, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide iPhone Product Marketing, said: "iPhone SE has been an incredibly popular choice with our existing users and for new iPhone customers, thanks to its iconic design, exceptional performance, and affordable price.
"This year we’ve built the most powerful and durable iPhone SE yet, with better battery life thanks to A15 Bionic, the same chip as our iPhone 13 lineup that also unlocks advanced camera features like Smart HDR 4, Photographic Styles, and Deep Fusion.”
"And with 5G, iPhone SE gives users faster downloads and uploads, higher quality video streaming, real-time interactivity in apps, and much more. Delivering the latest generation of technology and performance at this price is something only Apple can do.”
The latest iPhone is the third handset in Apple's SE range, which are the tech giant’s smaller-screened devices with less flash features than its larger flagship counterparts but for a lower price.
“When the iPhone SE 2020 was announced at the height of the pandemic it was the perfect product at that time. Consumers were uncertain about the outlook and an affordable iPhone was ideally placed to take advantage of that,” said Ben Wood, chief analyst at CCS Insight.
“In 2022 things have improved but the iPhone SE franchise still fills an important role as an affordable iPhone for consumers still cautious about splashing out on a top-of-the-line iPhone or who just don’t feel the need to spend more than is necessary.”
Apple has announced that a revamped iPad air tablet which will come in grey, silver, pink, purple and blue finishes, will also go on sale from March, 18 with prices starting at £569.
The tech giant is also set to release an all-new desktop computer system called Mac Studio, along with a special gadget to go with it.
