Appeal after garden at children's nursery set alight

Police in Paisley are appealing for information following a deliberate fire at Hillview Nursery.

Tyres from the play area at the nursery on Blackstoun Road were moved and placed underneath a large storage container and set alight at around 8.45pm on Friday.

The container subsequently caught light, causing extensive damage to the container and the contents within, which included children’s bikes.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service attended and extinguished the fire.

Nobody was injured during the incident.

Officers are treating the fire as deliberate and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Constable Gordon Hunt, of Paisley CID, said: “This completely reckless act has resulted in key equipment provided for children at the nursery being destroyed.

“I am appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and saw any unusual or suspicious activity to contact us.

“Information can be provided to police on 101, quoting reference number 3983 of June 4, or to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if you prefer to remain anonymous.”
