BHOPAL: Next hearing of the petition on panchayat elections, rotation of reservations and delimitation has been scheduled for 2 pm on Tuesday.
The petition has been filed by Congress spokesman Syed Zafar and party worker Jaya Thakur while Rajya Sabha MP Vivek Tankha is arguing the case in court.
Syed Zafar and Jaya Thakur in their petition in the Supreme Court alleged that the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government violated the reservation rotation norms for the upcoming panchayat elections in the state. Through an Ordinance last month, the BJP government in the state annulled the delimitation and reservation status notification of 2019, issued by the erstwhile 15-month Kamal Nath government.
The BJP government through an Ordinance reverted to the reservation and delimitation status of 2014 and said that the local body elections will be held under the previous order. Congress party protested calling the step unconstitutional since the provision is for reservation rotation every five years. Panchayat elections of 2021 cannot be contested on reservation and delimitation of 2014, Congress argued.
