Aodh Dervin says he wants to embrace Damien Duff's "ruthless environment" at Shelbourne.
Dervin, 22, has joined the Reds from Longford Town, having spent six years with the club and he helped the midlanders to gain promotion in 2020 as their player of the season.
Last season was a struggle for Longford as they went straight back down but Dervin, as captain, continued to impress despite the team's difficulties.
“Look, when Damien Duff rings you, it’s a great feeling," said the central midfielder.
"It had been in the works for a while and it was the right time on all sides.
"I’m hungry to be involved in what is going to be a ruthless environment.
"I’m obsessed with hard work and will be fully focused on it now. It’s a great Christmas present to get it over the line. I’m all Shels now.”
For Duff, the signing of Dervin is another step towards getting the squad he wants for the Reds' return to the top flight.
“We are delighted to welcome Aodh to Tolka Park," said Shels' new head coach.

"He has played a lot of games for one so young, so he is a brilliant addition to our midfield options.
"He is tenacious, technical and has an infectious appetite for the game.
"He will fit perfectly into the dressing room.”
