Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's district office in New York was vandalized over the weekend by a group of pro-Palestinian activists angry over her recent vote to maintain U.S. defense funding for Israel.
The incident occurred days after Ocasio-Cortez broke from several fellow progressive "Squad" members and voted against an amendment introduced by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) to slash $500 million in aid to Israel's air defense systems, according to the New York Post. The amendment failed in a 6–422 vote but exposed divisions on the left over how to address U.S. support for Israel amid the ongoing war in Gaza.
On Sunday, activists splattered red paint across the windows of Ocasio-Cortez's Westchester Square office and taped a sign to the glass that read, "AOC funds genocide in Gaza." A photo of the congresswoman displayed in the front window was completely obscured by the paint.
The Boogie Down Liberation Front, a local group, claimed responsibility for the act and issued a scathing statement condemning Ocasio-Cortez and fellow Bronx Democrat Ritchie Torres for "using us as a stepping stone for their own political careers."
The congresswoman has pushed back on criticism from the left, saying the Greene amendment would have cut off Iron Dome defense funding while allowing offensive weapons to continue flowing to Israel. "Of course I voted against it," she wrote on X, adding that her priority remains ending U.S. support for munitions "being used to perpetuate the genocide in Gaza."
It's unclear whether law enforcement is investigating the incident, and Ocasio-Cortez's office has not issued a formal comment.
