'No vote taken to sack Mike Tancred': AOC denies firing media director

The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) denies they have fired media director Mike Tancred, while the ABC understands Mr Tancred is taking legal action against the controversial sports body.

Mr Tancred has been suspended from his AOC role since April after a bullying claim was made by former chief executive Fiona de Jong.

At that time, the AOC appointed an independent committee to review four bullying complaints about Mr Tancred.

On Friday, he was cleared of the bullying charges by that committee.

The ABC understands Mr Tancred is preparing legal action for unfair dismissal, with the alleged firing happening eight days before the bullying review findings were handed down.

'His employment has not been terminated'

The AOC denied he had been sacked and said his return to work remained the decision of current chief executive Matt Carroll.

"Mike Tancred — his employment has not been terminated," he said.

Mr Carroll said there was a recent meeting of the executive but they did not vote on Mr Tancred's employment.

"There was no vote taken to sack Mike Tancred," he said.

However, it is understood Mr Tancred, who has held the position for 18 years, has filed legal proceedings, claiming he was terminated without cause.

"I have had discussions with Mr Tancred and his legal representatives about a number of matters which remain confidential," Mr Carroll said.
