Antony poses for picture with "idol" Cristiano Ronaldo's son in Man Utd academy visit

Manchester United forward Antony was snapped alongside the son of his idol, Cristiano Ronaldo, this week when he paid a visit to watch the club's academy stars.

The Brazilian winger has only been at Old Trafford for a number of weeks after the club hierarchy agreed an £85million deal to prise him away from Ajax.

Erik ten Hag was desperate to reunite with the 22-year-old after he played a crucial role in the Ajax side that clinched a third Dutch title in four years under Ten Hag last year - and he finally landed his man on transfer deadline day after the Dutch giants softened their stance and agreed a deal.

Antony was desperate to reunite with his old boss in the Premier League once United had made their interest clear - so much so that he even went on strike in a bid to push the move through.

As well as reuniting with Ten Hag, Antony was presented with the opportunity to play alongside one of his idols in Ronaldo. The Portuguese superstar - who stood and applauded Antony's debut goal against Arsenal last week - was described as "the best in the world" by his new United colleague last week.

And Antony was snapped alongside his idol's son, Cristiano Jr, this week when he watched some of the youth team play at the club's Carrington training base. The 12-year-old was joined by two other academy players in the picture not long after he spoke of his admiration for Ronaldo Sr.

Speaking to Manchester United's official website, Antony said: "I've come to help my team-mates. Regardless of age, there's immense talent in all the players.

"Words can’t describe Cristiano, the best in the world. In just a few days, I've learnt a lot from him. He has an extraordinary mind and, whenever I talk to him, I take a lot from it. I'm sure that we have a strong attack and it's very promising for the future."

Ronaldo has spent the opening few weeks of the season on the bench but could soon be integrated into a new look attack alongside Antony, who Ten Hag predicted would make an instant impact at Old Trafford.

"He proved himself already. Champions League, Brazilian national team and Olympic gold medalist," said Ten Hag after a deal for Antony had been agreed. "Brazil has a number of players so high talented. You can select two or three teams and he can deal with the pressure. He will bring temperament and creativity.

"Also for him it is a new start and he has to adapt to the team, to the Premier League and to the high intensity. But I'm sure he will adapt."
