Antonio Conte makes "worrying assessment" of Tottenham with future at club unknown

In the aftermath of Tottenham 's 1-0 defeat to Burnley, attention was quickly diverted away from their dismal display to Antonio Conte and his future at the club.

Spurs suffered a fourth defeat in five games with that loss at Turf Moor and after what looked like a turning point in their season with the 3-2 victory at Manchester City on Saturday, things quickly changed again.

The Italian looked broken and completely devoid of any hope in his interviews following the game and even hinted at his own exit from the club.

And an exit now seems as though it could be edging closer after former footballer Massimo Brambati revealed that he has spoken with Conte, who said he is ‘thinking of leaving’ the club.

Do you think Antonio Conte will leave Tottenham before the end of the season? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

Brambati told TMW Radio : “He’s thinking of leaving. He would like to stay at home, let’s say. It takes time, and maybe he realised that there’s a margin beyond which he can’t go with certain players.

"He made a wrong assessment. I’ve heard from him; he’s disappointed with a situation he expected to be different.”

This will come as devastating news to Spurs fans who will certainly hate to see a manager of Conte’s pedigree walk away from the club this early on in his tenure.

The Italian took over in November and helped bring Spurs back into the top four discussion after a nine game unbeaten run following his appointment.

Despite exits from the Europa Conference League and the Carabao Cup semi-finals to Chelsea over two legs, Spurs still have a chance of silverware this season as they remain in the FA Cup.

The top four certainly isn’t out of the question but four defeats in their past five games doesn’t bode well, especially when they failed to beat the likes of Southampton, Wolves and Burnley, and if a turnaround in their season is going to happen, it has to be now.

Spurs will be keen to keep hold of Conte, a manager who has vast experience across Europe and with a Premier League title to his name. But an uninspiring January transfer window left him with a squad he is struggling to succeed with.

Brambati’s comments will worry Spurs fans and it remains to be seen as to whether Conte feels his situation can get any better.

A trip to Leeds United on Saturday is up next for the club, in a game they will be expected to win against their 15th placed opposition who left Anfield with a 6-0 defeat on Wednesday.

And should Spurs fail to pick up three points, there is the growing feeling that it may well be the last straw for Conte.
