Antiques Roadshow guest's £28 watch valued at £10k leaving him stunned

An Antiques Roadshow guest was stunned after a watch he bought for £28 was valued at £10,000.

On tonight's show from Bodnant Garden in Colwyn Bay, a guest brought in a Heuer wristwatch.

Expert Alistair Chandler explained how the brand was synonymous with Formula 1 and motorsport in the 1960s and 70s.

He said: "You'd see the drivers with the Heuer badge on their overalls, they'd sponsor the stopwatches and the lap times and everything else."

Despite not having an interest in motor racing, the guest explained how he bought the watch in the mid-'60s in his friend's jeweller shop.

The watch was extremely eye-catching, as it featured a great colour combination and stunning detail.

Mr Chandler discovered the watch was the 'Autavia' model, now known as the 'Mario Andretti', after the F1 and Indycar driver.

The guest said he paid around £28 to £30 for the watch, the equivalent of a couple of week's wage.

Mr Chandler then stunned the guest as he valued the watch at around £7,000 to £10,000.

The guest said: "Right, very nice, thanks very much."

Mr Chandler added: "It's a very handsome watch, a very wearable watch - I really like it."
