Anthony Smith: Dustin Poirier better than Conor McGregor, ‘full of sh*t’ if he says he wouldn’t do fourth fight

Anthony Smith highly doubts that Dustin Poirier would turn down a fourth fight with Conor McGregor.

Poirier (29-7 MMA, 21-6 UFC) and McGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC) have fought three times, with Poirier winning their past two meetings by TKO. But with McGregor breaking his leg in the first round of their trilogy bout in July 2021, the Irish superstar says they have unfinished business.

Although Poirier was initially dismissive of the idea of a fourth fight, a recent back-and-forth between the two appeared to suggest otherwise. Either way, Smith doesn’t see why Poirier wouldn’t accept a fourth fight.

“We all know the price tag that probably comes with a Conor McGregor fight,” Smith said on Michael Bisping’s “Believe You Me” podcast. “So you can say all you want, ‘Oh, I don’t want it.’ I love Dustin Poirier. I love everything he stands for. Dustin’s full of sh*t. He’s going to take that paycheck any chance he gets, and I’m here to watch it. I’ll buy it, and I’ll put money in his pocket. I’m here for it, just for the buildup.”

Smith went on to explain that he thinks Poirier has McGregor’s number, which should give him all the more reason to want to fight him again.

“He wasn’t really in either of those last two fights,” Smith said of McGregor. “I’m a huge Dustin Poirier mark. I’ll buy everything he sells, I’ll watch any fight he’s in, but taking my biases out of it, he’s just better. It’s just a fact.”

McGregor hasn’t been tested in 2022 and won’t be eligible to compete until he completes six months of testing in the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency program. Poirier is coming off a submission win over Michael Chandler at UFC 281 in November and is currently battling a staff infection, which sparked the recent trash talk with McGregor.
