WASHINGTON _ Anthony Scaramucci, announced little more than a week ago as President Donald Trump's White House communications director, was ousted Monday before he was even officially sworn in.
John Kelly, the newly appointed chief of staff, told Scaramucci he was going to be replaced, according to a person close to the White House
Scaramucci, a former hedge fund executive who enjoyed the limelight, had come on strong in his brief tenure, highlighted by a profane tirade against colleagues, delivered last week to a New Yorker reporter.
But the abrupt shift may also be related to Kelly's mission to bring order to the Trump White House. Scaramucci told reporters when he was hired that he would be reporting directly to the president, bypassing the normal chain of command, which would require the communications director to report to the chief of staff.
The unusually short tenure reflects a moment of extreme turbulence in the White House, which has been embroiled in infighting and dragged down by Trump's low poll numbers, stalled legislative agenda an the investigation involving Russian meddling in last year's campaign.
